Tex Expo Photo Gallery
18 Dec. - 20 Dec. Janmanch, Saharanpur
Saharanpur (20 Dec.): Although meant to be an event for the benefit of both - VENDORS as well as the BUYERS, Tex Expo - announced as a VENDOR-BUYER meet, was reduced to a Fashion Show due to extremely poor response from the buyers and sellers. It seems the organisors were too busy in the glamorous part of the event - dances, drama and yes, the much publicized FASHION SHOW so that the VENDOR - BUYER meet was relegated to the background. Many stalls remained vacant and to add fuel to the fire, a number of exhibitors packed up and left at the end of the first day itself. "There are no serious buyers here. The cavalcade of VVIPs comes every now and then and that's all. Why waste precious time and money here" said an exhibitor who had come all the way from Ferozabad. At exhibits level, there were very few new products - sine wave voltage stabilizers, CVTs, power savers etc., which were on display by a manufacturer of Meerut. There was hardly anything new from the local 700 plus industrial fraternity. One stall of EPCH (picture framing technology training institute) had some interesting displays. Some girls had a display of results of their hobby classes - toy making etc., which attracted some people. A visitor commented, "Saharanpur is not a small village and any attempt to organise this type of event with the mindset of a village is bound to fail. Is there anything new exhibited here which a visitor cannot find in the shops of Saharanpur? Saharanpurians go to as far as Pragati Maidan, New Delhi in search of new products, new ideas and new business deals. So, it is wrong to say that the public of Saharanpur is not enlightened enough for such programmes. On the contrary, it is the IIA and MSME which should open up their minds to new and creative ideas. What they have organised here is hardly anything more than a village peth. It could have been useful had there been no markets in Saharanpur. In that case, people would have come here to buy their groceries ! As of now, I don't find anything special here that would attract the buyers. If there had been anything extra-ordinary here, people would have thronged to this place, if not on the opening day then on 2nd or the concluding day. Why should anyone come here except for some entertaining cultural programmes ? " It is not that the entire exercise has gone a waste. There was a training workshop on securing finance from the banks which found some participants.
