Whether you like them or hate them, the SMS are a part of our life now.  Initially, we used them to pass on important short messages but soon they became the most favoured tool to keep in touch with our nears and dears.  Businessmen send them for their business promotion, news channels invite SMS from the TV viewers to give them the impression that their opinions are the deciding factor in the TV reality shows.

When people get a message that titillates them or brings smile to their faces, they forward them to their friends and relatives also.  A good  SMS may originate  from one part of the globe and within a week, it may have already been read by crores of people in all parts of the world.  What SMS cannot convey, we convey it with the help of emails.

Such is the frequency of SMS these days that they now tend to irritate us. Unsolicited messages, especially business promotional messages (both - SMS and emails) are frowned at by the recipients and TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) had to intervene in the matter.  Now people have the option to put up a sign board, "DO NOT DISTURB."  If you have intimated this to your mobile service provider,  no one can send you unsolicited SMS.   If someone is getting into your skin by sending his business promotional messages or is making cold phone calls to you, you can complain against the person and his number will be discontinued with immediate effect.
