Saharanpur has an unusually large amount of social activities going on. For a town of this size, the number of social, cultural, literary and religious organisations is astounding. People who once get involved in the activities of these organisations don't want to leave Saharanpur ever after. Even the administrative officers who come here on transfer postings wish to defer their subsequent transfers as far as possible. It is not unusual for the Saharanpurians to find their favourite officers managing to get a posting back at Saharanpur after a few years !
Saharanpur is also a very fertile land where different performing talents have taken birth - dancers, singers, composers, lyricists, actors, directors, scientists, engineers etc.

For the sake of ease, we may place different voluntary organisations in different categories. We can't possibly list out every organisation registered and functioning in Saharanpur. It seems as if a new outfit comes up every other day. Still, an attempt is being made here to list at least some of the better known entities.
